Police officers initiated a pursuit for the tanker vehicle. During the pursuit, the tanker vehicle rammed a State Police vehicle. The crash instantly killed the officer standing next to the vehicle. The fire from the crash caused a subsequent explosion that concussed many people around, including police officers. The explosion of a fuel tanker caused the death of many civilians around, including a member of the press. The San Andreas Highway Patrol continues to investigate the incident.
